Pelican Rouge: Path to CO2 Neutral

We actively make our coffee carbon neutral, from farm to roasted bean. We focus on reducing CO2 emissions at farm-level (85% of the total impact) and in our roasting facilities (6%). We reduce CO2 emissions at farm-level by implementing insetting programs embracing agroforestry and regenerative agriculture within our supply chain. Complementarily, we are transitioning to renewable energy and efficient production in our facilities.

We are committed to CO2 neutral coffee:

  • 100% of CO2 impact of Pelican Rouge coffee compensated or reduced by 2025

CO2 neutral coffee through farm-level insetting programs

Our approach at farm level focuses on achieving effective and long-term CO2 reduction within our supply chain. To ultimately achieve CO2 neutral, our insetting programs reduce CO2 emissions by planting shade, fruit, and other carbon-storing trees over time. Along with tree planting, we foster low carbon farming practices by financially supporting farmers to make this transition.

This route to reduce carbon emissions in our supply chain is a long-term multipurpose investment. Beyond CO2 reduction, our insetting programs focus on improving farm climate resilience, helping restore vital ecosystems, increasing productivity, and improving the livelihoods of coffee farmers.

CO2 neutral coffee through compensation

Some clients demand and wish CO2 neutral coffee here and now. We currently offer certified CO2 credits in the coffee supply chain, such as VERA, REDD+ and Plan Vivo agroforestry and reforestation in coffee plantations, forest protection, and biogas projects. We offer the possibility to compensation emissions from farm-to-roaster and from roasted bean-to-cup depending on the needs of our clients.
